Woman Accused of Shooting Boyfriend After Alleged Affair; Bullets Penetrate Neighboring Apartment with Child Inside
Las Vegas, NV – A domestic dispute turned violent last Thursday when a woman allegedly shot her boyfriend after discovering him engaged in a sexual act with another woman. The incident, which occurred at an apartment complex near Fremont Street and Eastern Avenue, not only left the man wounded but also endangered a neighboring family when stray bullets tore through their walls, narrowly missing a child.
The woman, identified as Jessica Kennedy, 34, now faces multiple charges including attempted murder, child abuse, and domestic battery with a deadly weapon resulting in substantial bodily harm, according to court records.
Authorities say the incident began to unfold around Thursday, May 8, when a frantic 911 call came in from a resident near the scene. The caller, speaking in a whisper, told dispatchers, “Please come, someone is shooting,” according to police documents.
When officers arrived on the scene, they located a man suffering from gunshot wounds in a nearby alley. The man, whose name has not been released, informed police that Kennedy—his girlfriend—had shot him. Details regarding the extent of his injuries have not been disclosed, but he was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Investigators believe the confrontation escalated after Kennedy discovered the man involved with another woman. In a fit of rage, Kennedy allegedly opened fire, discharging multiple rounds inside the apartment. The violence, however, did not remain confined to the domestic argument.
A neighboring resident reported hearing the gunshots and immediately taking cover. According to the police report, several bullets pierced through the shared wall, narrowly missing the woman’s young child. In fear for their lives, the woman and her son reportedly hid under their kitchen table until authorities arrived.
“It could’ve been deadly for my son,” the neighbor reportedly told officers. She added that she had previously filed complaints with her landlord regarding the unit next door, which she believed was supposed to be vacant.
The case has raised concerns about tenant safety, particularly regarding property management and vacant unit oversight. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including how Kennedy gained access to the apartment and whether any other individuals may have been involved.
Jessica Kennedy remains in custody as of Friday, pending a court appearance. Prosecutors have not yet disclosed whether additional charges may be filed.
