Warrant Issued for Hillsboro Man in Fatal Highway 31 Crash

HARTSELLE, Ala. (September 10, 2025) — Authorities have obtained a warrant for 40-year-old Archie Hale of Hillsboro, charging him with Murder in connection with a fatal crash that claimed the life of a juvenile victim on September 6, 2025.

According to Traffic Homicide Investigators, the collision occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. when Hale, driving westbound on Highway 36, entered the intersection at Highway 31 at a dangerously high rate of speed. Video evidence confirmed that the traffic light was red for Hale’s direction of travel at the time. His reckless disregard for the signal and excessive speed caused a violent impact with a northbound vehicle, resulting in the death of a young victim.

Officials described Hale’s conduct as demonstrating an “extreme indifference to human life”, noting that his actions not only created a grave risk of death but directly caused the fatal outcome.

Hale sustained serious injuries in the crash and remains under medical care. However, Hartselle police officers are on standby and will assume custody once he is released. At that time, Hale will be held without bond on the murder charge.

In addition, Hale faces an array of charges through the Priceville Police Department, including:

• Attempting to Elude

• Possession with Intent

• DUI

• Reckless Endangerment

• Multiple moving violations

These charges carry a combined bond total of $296,000.00.

Investigators emphasized that the case is far from closed, as it involves multiple victims. Authorities are currently gathering and reviewing medical records to fully assess the extent of all injuries sustained in the crash. Officials confirmed that additional charges are expected as findings are finalized.

In a statement, Chief McDearmond revealed that he personally met with a representative of the juvenile victim’s family prior to the issuance of the warrant. “While nothing can fill the void left in this family,” he said, “the Hartselle Police Department is committed to ensuring Hale faces these charges and that justice is pursued on behalf of this young man and his family.”
