A routine disturbance call turned tragic on Wednesday afternoon when Walton County Sheriff’s Deputy Will May was fatally shot while responding to an incident at a Dollar General store.
A Deadly Encounter
The shooting occurred around 2:00 p.m. when Deputy May, 38, arrived at the store to investigate reports of a disturbance. Details of what led to the gunfire have not yet been fully disclosed by authorities, but what started as a seemingly routine call quickly escalated into violence.

Deputy William “Will” May was a second-generation law enforcement officer who had dedicated nearly a decade to serving the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.
