Utah Family Grieves Second Tragedy in Two Years After 2-Year-Old Girl’s Death
Layton, Utah — A family in northern Utah is enduring an unimaginable heartbreak for the second time in just two years. Angela Hansen, a mother of four, is grieving the death of her 2-year-old daughter, Ada, after a tragic accident claimed the little girl’s life earlier this month.
A Second Tragedy
In July 2023, Hansen lost her husband, Kyley Hansen, who drowned in a pool during an Independence Day celebration. The sudden loss left her raising their four young children alone.
Now, just over two years later, tragedy has struck again. On Friday, September 5, 2025, Angela’s youngest daughter, Ada, was struck by a truck in the parking lot of the Shiny Shell Carwash in Layton, according to the Layton City Police Department.
First responders arrived around 10 a.m. and found the child critically injured. She was airlifted to a hospital but died from her injuries a short time later.
How the Accident Happened
Police said their preliminary investigation showed that Angela Hansen’s vehicle was parked next to a truck driven by an 18-year-old man. Two children, including Ada, were outside of the vehicles when the driver finished cleaning his truck and began to pull forward.
Ada, standing near the passenger side of the truck, was struck. The driver immediately stopped and has been described by investigators as “fully cooperative.”
Family members later shared that Ada had been playing inside a gated playground nearby when her 4-year-old sister let both of them out. The girls were making their way to their mother when the collision occurred.
Ada’s aunt, Lauren Paskett, told local reporters that Ada’s sister tried desperately to protect her. “Her sister said that she was holding her hand, and she tried to stop it, and she said she couldn’t. He didn’t see, but she tried to put her hands up and say stop,” Paskett said.
Remembering Ada
Ada was born just months after her father’s death, according to her obituary. Loved ones described her as joyful, sweet, and deeply cherished by her family.
“Every day of Ada’s life was filled with care, laughter, and joy from her devoted family,” her obituary read.
Her aunt added that the family takes comfort in believing Ada is now reunited with her father. “It’s been easier knowing that she’s with her dad, because he did pass away two years before that,” Paskett said.
Ada is survived by her three siblings — Asher, 9; Naomi, 7; and Violet, 4 — along with her mother.
Support for the Family
A GoFundMe campaign established by loved ones is helping the Hansen family with funeral costs and ongoing support. The organizer wrote, “There is no blame in this heartbreaking accident — only compassion. She was quite literally everybody’s baby and we just loved and cherished her.”
Community members have rallied around Angela and her children, offering meals, donations, and messages of comfort. Local clergy and grief counselors are also providing support as the family navigates yet another devastating loss.
A Community in Mourning
The Hansen family’s story has resonated across Utah, not only for the scale of their loss but also for the resilience shown in the face of repeated tragedy. Friends and relatives describe Angela as a devoted mother who has poured her strength into her children despite the unimaginable.
For many in Layton, Ada’s death has prompted reflection on the fragility of life and the importance of compassion in times of grief.
