Tyler, TX — Tyler Police Officer Sam Lively Tragically Killed in Off-Duty Motorcycle Crash
The city of Tyler is mourning the heartbreaking loss of one of its own after an off-duty police officer, Sam Lively, died following a tragic motorcycle crash Friday evening.
According to an official release from the Tyler Police Department, officers responded around 6 p.m. to reports of a crash on Troup Highway, just north of Loop 323. Preliminary investigations reveal that Officer Lively, riding a motorcycle, was traveling southbound in the outside lane of Troup Highway when a vehicle in the inside lane attempted to change lanes. In doing so, the vehicle struck Lively’s motorcycle, causing a devastating collision.
First responders arrived quickly on the scene and transported Lively to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of emergency medical teams, Officer Lively succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. He was off-duty at the time of the crash.
Officer Sam Lively was a recent graduate of the police academy and had just completed his field training, marking the beginning of what promised to be a long and impactful career in public service. His passing has left the Tyler Police Department and the entire community stunned and grief-stricken.
