Two Children Killed, Two Critically Injured in Heartbreaking Angleton Shooting Involving Oninda Romelus

ANGLETON, Texas — A heartbreaking tragedy has shaken the quiet community of Angleton, Texas, after an early morning shooting left two young children dead and two others fighting for their lives. Authorities say the incident, which occurred before dawn on Saturday, has left residents of Brazoria County reeling in shock and grief.

According to the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office, the violence unfolded inside a home in the 300 block of South Velasco Street just before 5 a.m. Deputies responding to multiple 911 calls discovered a horrific scene: four children had been shot, two of them pronounced dead at the scene, while the other two were rushed to nearby hospitals in critical condition.

Officials have identified the suspect as Oninda Romelus, whose connection to the victims has not yet been fully disclosed. Investigators are working to piece together what led to the tragic shooting, but early reports indicate it may have stemmed from a domestic dispute that escalated into unimaginable violence.

Sheriff’s deputies detained Romelus at the scene without incident. Authorities say she is cooperating with investigators, though no official charges have yet been announced. The investigation remains active, and law enforcement officials are working closely with the Brazoria County District Attorney’s Office as they gather evidence and conduct interviews.

Neighbors told reporters they were jolted awake by the sound of gunfire and sirens in the early hours of the morning. Many described the family as quiet and loving, making the tragedy even harder to comprehend. “You never think something like this could happen here,” one neighbor said through tears. “Those kids were always playing outside. It’s just devastating.”

Emergency responders from multiple agencies, including the Angleton Police Department, Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office, and local EMS teams, worked tirelessly to secure the scene and tend to the victims. The surviving children were airlifted to a Houston-area trauma center, where they remain in critical but stable condition as of Saturday afternoon.

Sheriff Joe King expressed his condolences during a press briefing, calling the incident “one of the most tragic and emotionally devastating cases our county has ever seen.” He urged the community to keep the surviving victims and their family members in their thoughts and prayers as investigators continue their work.

Grief counselors are being made available through the local school district and community organizations to support families affected by the tragedy. The Brazoria County community has already begun organizing vigils and donation drives to assist the surviving children and relatives.

As the investigation continues, law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information about the events leading up to the shooting to contact the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office at (979) 864-2392.
