Triple Shooting Outside Eastpointe Foot Locker Leaves One Dead, Two Critically Injured

EASTPOINTE, MI — A deadly shooting unfolded Friday evening outside a Foot Locker store near the intersection of 8 Mile Road and Kelly, leaving one man dead and two others critically injured. The Eastpointe Police Department has launched an intensive investigation into the incident, which has rattled the community and prompted authorities to urge the public to avoid the area while the scene remains active.

Police say the shooting occurred just after 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the busy shopping plaza, a location often frequented by shoppers and commuters. According to initial reports, multiple gunshots were fired during what is believed to be a targeted act of violence. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as people ran for cover while gunfire erupted outside the retail store.

Responding officers arrived to find three adult male victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

One of the victims, a male believed to be approximately 30 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Two additional victims, a 24-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, sustained life-threatening injuries. Both were transported as Priority 1 patients to St. John Hospital (Ascension St. John Moross) in Detroit. One of the surviving victims reportedly sustained a gunshot wound to the back.

Authorities have not confirmed the motive behind the shooting but did say the suspects fled the scene in a black sedan, possibly a Chevrolet Malibu, traveling westbound on 8 Mile Road. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from surrounding businesses and seeking eyewitness accounts to aid in identifying and apprehending the suspects.

“We are asking for the public’s help in bringing those responsible for this senseless act of violence to justice,” said a spokesperson for the Eastpointe Police Department. “If you saw anything or have any information — even something that may seem small — please come forward.”

The area around 8 Mile and Kelly remains cordoned off as crime scene investigators process evidence. Officials are asking residents and drivers to avoid the intersection and surrounding blocks while the investigation continues.

The triple shooting has left many Eastpointe residents shaken, with growing concerns about gun violence in an area that sees steady foot traffic and family activity. Community leaders and local businesses are calling for increased security and a renewed focus on public safety.

“This was broad daylight in a busy shopping area,” said one witness who asked to remain anonymous. “It could’ve been anyone caught in the crossfire. Something has to change.”

No arrests have been made at this time, and police have not released descriptions of the suspects. The Eastpointe Police Department encourages anyone with information to call their tip line or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.

As the investigation develops, the Eastpointe community mourns the loss of one life and hopes for the recovery of the two others injured in this tragic incident. Further updates are expected as detectives work to track down those responsible.
