Tragic Suspected Murder-Suicide in Dallas Leaves Two Dead, One Critically Injured

Dallas, TX – A quiet North Dallas neighborhood was rocked early Saturday morning, April 5, 2025, as Dallas police responded to a tragic scene in what is now being investigated as a suspected murder-suicide. The incident left two individuals dead, including the alleged shooter, and one person critically injured.

At approximately 6:05 a.m., officers were dispatched to a reported disturbance in the 13300 block of Emily Road, an area of residential apartment complexes nestled in a typically peaceful part of the city. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a devastating scene inside one of the residences.

According to preliminary reports, 35-year-old William Calderon is believed to have entered the residence armed with a firearm. He then allegedly opened fire on two individuals before turning the weapon on himself, dying of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

One of the victims, 54-year-old Maria Hernandez, was found deceased at the scene. A beloved mother and community member, Maria’s sudden and violent death has left neighbors and loved ones reeling with shock and grief. Friends described her as “kind-hearted,” “strong,” and “a woman who always put family first.”

The second victim, whose identity has not been released at this time, was critically wounded in the shooting. Dallas Fire-Rescue transported the victim to a nearby hospital where they remain in critical condition. Authorities have not released further details about their condition but continue to monitor the situation closely.

Investigators are still working to determine the motive behind the shooting. Early indications suggest a possible domestic dispute may have been involved, but police have not yet confirmed the relationships among the individuals involved. Detectives are interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence as they piece together what led up to the horrific violence.

“This is a heartbreaking and senseless tragedy,” said a Dallas Police spokesperson. “Our hearts go out to the families of those affected, and we are doing everything we can to support the victims and bring clarity to what happened.”

Residents of the area have expressed shock, with many saying that the neighborhood had never experienced anything of this magnitude. “You never expect something like this to happen so close to home,” said one neighbor. “I heard the sirens early in the morning and had no idea such horror had taken place just a few doors down.”

As the investigation remains active, authorities are urging anyone with additional information to come forward. Police are particularly interested in learning more about William Calderon’s state of mind prior to the shooting, as well as any potential warning signs that may have been missed.

Counselors and victim advocates have been made available to the affected families, as well as community members impacted by the trauma of the event.

This incident serves as a painful reminder of the far-reaching impacts of domestic violence and mental health crises. Community leaders are urging residents to remain vigilant and to seek help or report concerns if they see someone in distress.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Dallas Police Department’s Homicide Unit or submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers.

As loved ones mourn the loss of Maria Hernandez and grapple with the gravity of the events, the Dallas community continues to stand in solidarity with the victims, hoping for healing, justice, and peace.
