Tragic Single-Vehicle Crash in Santa Ana Claims Five Young Lives, Leaves One Teen Hospitalized
Santa Ana, CA – April 9, 2025 — A devastating single-vehicle collision late Saturday night has left a community in mourning after five young individuals lost their lives and another remains hospitalized. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at approximately 11:22 p.m., has shaken the city of Santa Ana and ignited a call for road safety awareness, especially among young drivers.
The Crash
The Santa Ana Police Department received multiple emergency calls reporting a serious collision near Segerstrom Avenue and Griset Place. Responding officers, along with firefighters from the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA), arrived to a scene of utter devastation. A vehicle had crashed into a palm tree in the raised center median, with debris scattered across the road.
According to authorities, the vehicle had been traveling westbound on Segerstrom Avenue and was navigating a curve near Townsend Street when the driver apparently lost control at a high rate of speed, causing the vehicle to veer off course and collide with the tree on its passenger side.
Victims and Casualties
Upon arrival, first responders found that three female passengers had been ejected from the vehicle due to the force of the crash. Two of them were immediately transported to nearby hospitals, while the third was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver and two additional passengers were trapped inside the wreckage and required auto-extraction tools, often referred to as the “Jaws of Life,” for emergency removal. Despite heroic efforts from the OCFA and emergency medical personnel, all three were pronounced dead at the scene.
Tragically, one of the ejected passengers who had been taken to the hospital succumbed to her injuries on April 9, bringing the total death toll to five. One 15-year-old female passenger remains hospitalized but is currently listed in stable condition.
