Tragic Madison Parish Crash Claims Life of 26-Year-Old Commercial Driver
Waverly, LA – July 10, 2025 – A tragic early morning crash on Interstate 20 in Madison Parish has claimed the life of 26-year-old Charles Moore of Meridian, Mississippi, leaving a ripple of grief across both state lines and the commercial driving community. The Louisiana State Police Troop F has confirmed the fatal two-vehicle collision occurred just before 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2025, west of Louisiana Highway 557.
According to the preliminary investigation, Moore was operating a 2024 International Commercial Motor Vehicle and traveling westbound on I-20. At the same time, a 2017 Freightliner Commercial Motor Vehicle was parked on the right shoulder of the same westbound lanes. For reasons still under investigation, Moore’s vehicle veered sharply to the right, colliding with the rear end of the stationary Freightliner. The violent impact forced Moore’s truck off the roadway and into a tree line, where it came to a final rest after striking a tree.
Moore, who was reportedly properly restrained at the time of the crash, suffered catastrophic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Louisiana State Police officials have noted that impairment is not suspected in this incident, but as per standard procedure, toxicology samples were taken and will be analyzed as part of the ongoing investigation.
This devastating loss serves as a grim reminder of the constant dangers present on our highways, especially for commercial drivers who spend countless hours navigating long stretches of road under tight schedules and challenging conditions. Even the most experienced drivers are not immune to the hazards of fatigue or momentary distraction.
Authorities have taken this opportunity to stress the life-threatening risks associated with drowsy and distracted driving—two silent killers on America’s roadways. Fatigue impairs judgment, reduces reaction time, and, in the worst cases, causes drivers to fall asleep behind the wheel. Distractions, whether from mobile devices, in-cab adjustments, eating, or even daydreaming, steal precious seconds of attention that can mean the difference between life and death.
“Driving a commercial vehicle requires full focus, sound decision-making, and an alert mind,” said Trooper First Class Ryan Davis, public affairs officer for the Louisiana State Police. “Even one brief lapse in attention can result in irreversible consequences. We urge all drivers—especially those in commercial transport—to recognize the signs of fatigue and take appropriate action. If you’re tired or distracted, pull over. A short break could save your life or someone else’s.”
As the investigation continues, the Louisiana State Police extend their condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Charles Moore. His untimely death not only highlights the perils of the profession but also stands as a heartbreaking example of how quickly tragedy can strike, even during what seems like a routine trip.
Troopers remind all drivers to remain vigilant, obey traffic laws, and prioritize safety at all times. For those operating large commercial vehicles, this tragedy underscores the importance of regular rest, avoiding shoulder stops whenever possible, and maintaining heightened awareness on the road.
