In a heartbreaking incident that has left the East Brunswick community in mourning, Ari and Sari Horowitz, both 51, lost their lives on September 15, 2012, when an out-of-control vehicle struck them as they walked home from Shabbat services at Young Israel of East Brunswick. The accident occurred around 1 p.m. near the intersection of Dunhams Corner Road and Hardenburg Lane, a location familiar to many congregants.

The driver, identified as 49-year-old Naglaa H. Armanious of East Brunswick, reportedly lost control of her vehicle, which veered onto the sidewalk, hitting the couple and three other pedestrians, including their 27-year-old son, Ami Horowitz. All injured parties were transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for treatment. Authorities indicated that a dog in the vehicle might have contributed to the accident, though investigations are ongoing.

Ari and Sari were deeply embedded in the fabric of the East Brunswick Jewish community. Ari had served as president of Young Israel from 2005 to 2007 and was known for his leadership and dedication. Sari was actively involved in the synagogue’s sisterhood and the bikur cholim group, offering support to those in need.

Their commitment extended beyond their local community. The couple frequently traveled to Israel, supporting various charitable initiatives, including delivering backpacks to soldiers through Yashar LaChayal. Their daughter, Natanya Tropp, resides in Ma’ale Adumim, Israel, with her husband and two young daughters.
