On Friday, March 21, 2025, an 18-foot vessel carrying eight passengers capsized near the Dames Point Bridge on the St. Johns River. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) responded promptly, rescuing four individuals from the water. Tragically, one person was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead. Three others, including two children, were initially reported missing.
Search efforts continued tirelessly, involving multiple agencies such as the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Despite extensive operations covering over 270 square miles, the search was suspended after 17 hours due to a lack of new information.
