Tragic Death of 12-Year-Old Jadako Taylor: Forced Ice Baths Lead to Murder Charges
COLUMBIA, SC – A 12-year-old boy, Jadako Taylor, suffered a horrific and prolonged death, enduring hours of what authorities describe as “punishment” turned deadly. The young boy was forced into freezing ice baths for nearly 75 minutes, his body pushed beyond survival as his temperature plummeted to a fatal 74°F.
By the time paramedics arrived at the home on March 24, 2025, Jadako was seizing, vomiting, and unresponsive. Despite desperate efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the hospital.
A Case of Abuse Disguised as Discipline
23-year-old Anthony McCants, a man entrusted with Jadako’s care, now faces murder charges for what investigators say was a deliberate act of child abuse disguised as punishment. According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Office, McCants subjected Jadako to multiple ice baths as a form of discipline, submerging his frail body for 45 minutes, removing him briefly, then forcing him back in for another 30 minutes.
Medical experts say the extended exposure to near-freezing water caused hypothermia, leading to organ failure, seizures, and ultimately death. When first responders arrived, Jadako’s body was ice-cold, and his internal temperature had dropped to a lethal level.
McCants Claims Innocence, The Law Says Otherwise
Despite the overwhelming medical evidence, McCants maintains his innocence, claiming he never meant to hurt the child. However, authorities argue that his actions were intentional and cruel, branding this as an unthinkable case of child abuse leading to homicide.
McCants has been charged with murder and child abuse resulting in death. His bond has been set at $500,000, though no amount of money can undo the suffering inflicted on Jadako Taylor.
A Community Outraged, A Family Devastated
Jadako’s tragic and senseless death has shaken the Columbia community, leaving friends, neighbors, and child advocates demanding justice. Family members describe Jadako as a sweet, joyful boy with a bright future, who didn’t deserve to die in such a cruel manner.
Community members have taken to social media to express their heartbreak, and a candlelight vigil is being planned in his honor. Many are calling for stricter laws and harsher penalties for those who abuse and murder children.
Seeking Justice for Jadako
As the case moves forward, prosecutors are pushing for the maximum penalty, arguing that McCants’ actions were calculated and deadly. If convicted, he could face life in prison.
While the legal system takes its course, one thing remains painfully clear: Jadako Taylor should still be alive today.
We mourn with his family, and we demand justice for the life stolen far too soon.
