Tragedy in the Florida Panhandle: Concord-Carlisle High School Seniors Jimmy McIntosh and Hannah Wasserman Killed in Devastating Crash

A tight-knit community in Massachusetts is reeling from an unimaginable loss after two seniors from Concord-Carlisle High School, Jimmy McIntosh and Hannah Wasserman, were tragically killed in a car crash in Florida’s Panhandle on Monday night. The heartbreaking incident, confirmed by Florida Highway Patrol and shared by school district officials, has left two other Concord-Carlisle seniors in critical condition, and an entire school community struggling to process the sudden and devastating news.

The crash occurred at approximately 9:28 p.m. on Route 98 in Walton County, near Panama City Beach. According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, an SUV carrying four 18-year-old Concord-Carlisle students—one male and three females—was traveling westbound when a tractor-trailer attempted a U-turn in a paved median. The SUV struck the truck, crossed the median and eastbound lanes, and finally came to a stop in a wooded area off the road.

Tragically, Jimmy McIntosh, the driver, and Hannah Wasserman, a passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene. The remaining two female passengers were seriously injured and transported to Bay Medical Center, where they remain in critical condition.

The driver and passenger in the tractor-trailer were not injured, according to authorities.

In a heartfelt statement to the school community, Dr. Laurie Hunter, Superintendent of the Concord-Carlisle Regional School District, expressed profound sorrow over the loss of two promising young lives. “We offer our deep condolences to the families and friends of Hannah and Jimmy during this unimaginable time,” Hunter said. “Their loss will be deeply felt by our school community as well as by so many families in Carlisle and Concord. We are also keeping the other two students in our thoughts and wish them strength and a swift recovery.”

The accident comes during what should have been a time of celebration and excitement for these young people—just weeks away from high school graduation and the next chapter in their lives. Jimmy and Hannah were both deeply involved in the Concord-Carlisle school community and were known for their warmth, spirit, and compassion. Their deaths leave a painful void among their peers, teachers, and families who were eagerly looking ahead to their bright futures.

In response to the tragedy, the school district has arranged grief counseling for students and staff, available on Wednesday between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m., and again on the Monday following spring break. The school community is encouraged to come together, share memories, and support one another through this time of profound loss.

As messages of sympathy pour in from friends, neighbors, and alumni, the Concord-Carlisle community is rallying to honor Jimmy and Hannah’s lives, while holding space for the two other students still fighting to recover. Plans for memorial services and further community support efforts are expected to be announced in the coming days.

This loss is a sobering reminder of the fragility of life and the deep, lasting impact of tragedy on a close community. For now, Concord and Carlisle grieve together—with candles lit, hearts heavy, and an unbreakable bond of support for the families forever changed by this loss.

Jimmy and Hannah, you will never be forgotten.
Your laughter, kindness, and dreams live on in the lives you touched. Rest in peace.
