HAMMOND, IN – In the early morning hours of Sunday, tragedy struck at Portside Pub, a popular local bar in Hammond, Indiana. As the clock neared 4 a.m., the peaceful night shattered into chaos when gunfire erupted, cutting short the lives of Lorraine Reyna, 58, and Paul Olivares, 25.
Both victims, known for their kindness and courage, lost their lives in an act of pure selflessness. Witnesses say they were trying to protect others caught in the violence—a domestic dispute turned deadly. In the aftermath of the shooting, three more victims were rushed to local hospitals, fighting for their lives as their families and friends pray for their recovery.
Lorraine Reyna, a mother, friend, and beloved member of the community, was a woman with a heart of gold. Her instinct to protect in a moment of crisis was no surprise to those who knew her. She spent her life looking out for others, and in her final moments, she did just that—placing herself between danger and those around her.
