Sunshine Coast Chaos: Porsche Driver Involved in Deadly Crash, Shooting, and Carjackings Remains Under Police Guard

Palmview, QLD — April 20, 2025

A shocking sequence of violence unfolded today on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast as police confirmed new details in the aftermath of a multi-vehicle crash, shooting, and carjacking involving a 41-year-old Tewantin man, who is now under police guard in hospital.

The terrifying chain of events began just after midday, when a Porsche Macan, registered to the suspect, crashed in the southbound lanes of the Bruce Highway at Palmview, triggering a multi-vehicle pileup. Police have clarified that the Porsche was not stolen, and the driver was the registered owner.

Tragically, a 22-year-old woman from Upper Mount Gravatt sustained serious injuries in the crash and was later pronounced dead. Authorities have not released her name publicly out of respect for the family, but the incident has left a community in mourning.

As chaos unfolded at the crash scene, police allege that the driver of the Porsche exited his vehicle armed with a firearm. He approached a white SsangYong Rexton, allegedly shot the male driver in the arm, and then stole the vehicle, fleeing the scene in broad daylight.

Emergency services rushed to the area, and a manhunt ensued. The stolen Rexton was soon located crashed near Forestry Road in Landsborough. The suspect then allegedly stole a second vehicle, a grey Mazda 3, continuing his desperate attempt to escape.

A short time later, police successfully apprehended the suspect near Steve Irwin Way. A firearm was recovered from inside the vehicle, and the man was taken into custody. He was transported to a local hospital where he is being treated for injuries and is now under police guard in serious condition.

Authorities have established three separate crime scenes — the initial crash site at Palmview, the Landsborough area where the Rexton was found, and the final arrest site. The scale and nature of the events have left Sunshine Coast residents in shock.

“This was an incredibly dangerous and fast-moving situation,” a Queensland Police spokesperson said in a press briefing. “We are treating the matter with the utmost seriousness and are asking any witnesses, especially those with dashcam footage, to come forward.”

The motive for the man’s actions remains under investigation. Police have not confirmed whether the suspect knew any of the victims involved. Charges are expected to include homicide, attempted murder, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and firearms offenses.

Meanwhile, the community is reeling from the loss of the 22-year-old woman and the trauma inflicted upon the victims of the carjackings and crash. Tributes have begun to appear online, and many are demanding answers as to how such a tragic and violent sequence of events could occur in a normally quiet region.

Queensland authorities are urging calm and promising a thorough investigation. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available in this ongoing case.
