Statement from the Northfield Center Township Board of Trustees

It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that we, the Northfield Center Township Board of Trustees, address the recent tragedy that has shaken our tight-knit community. The devastating shooting incident that occurred within our township has left us all in shock, and we are grieving alongside the victims, their families, and every resident impacted by this senseless act of violence.
First and foremost, our deepest condolences go out to those who have lost loved ones and to those who are recovering from physical and emotional trauma. No words can truly capture the pain that such a tragedy brings, but please know that our thoughts and prayers are with each of you during this unimaginably difficult time.
In the wake of this heartbreaking event, we want to reassure our community that we are actively working in coordination with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office. We fully support their ongoing and thorough investigation into the incident. Our law enforcement partners are committed to uncovering the facts, seeking justice, and maintaining the safety of our residents. We are grateful for their swift response and continued dedication to protecting our community.
As your elected representatives, we are taking this matter with the utmost seriousness. We are evaluating what additional steps may be necessary to ensure the continued safety and well-being of our residents. Public safety is our highest priority, and we are committed to working with local law enforcement, mental health professionals, and community organizations to address not only the aftermath of this tragedy but also to strengthen prevention efforts going forward.
We recognize the importance of healing — not just for the families directly affected, but for our entire township. We encourage community members to support one another with compassion, patience, and solidarity. Resources will be made available in the coming days for counseling, grief support, and crisis intervention for those who may need them.
