Shelbyville Man Found Dead in Home Identified as Homicide Victim; Investigation Ongoing

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a homicide after a man was found dead inside his Shelbyville home earlier this week.

Deputies were dispatched around 5:10 p.m. Wednesday to the Spring Oaks Estates neighborhood after receiving a call about an unresponsive person, according to a release from the department. When law enforcement arrived, they discovered a man inside his residence who was later pronounced dead at the scene by Shelby County Coroner Jeff Ivers.

On Friday, authorities identified the victim as 58-year-old Tim Ethington. While officials have confirmed that his death is being treated as a homicide, they have not released details about how he died. Investigators noted that no arrests have been made at this time, and the case remains active.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office has urged anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to come forward. “We are asking the community for any tips, no matter how small they may seem, as they could help us piece together the events that led to Mr. Ethington’s death,” the department stated.

Residents of the normally quiet Spring Oaks Estates neighborhood expressed shock and concern after learning of the tragedy. Neighbors described Ethington as a longtime community member, and many said the incident has left them unsettled in an area where violent crime is uncommon.

Authorities continue to process evidence and follow leads as they work to determine what led to Ethington’s death. In the meantime, law enforcement is asking the public for patience and cooperation.

Anyone with information regarding the case is urged to contact Captain Blake Lisby or Detective Kyle Washburn with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office at 502-633-4324.
