Selma Police Investigate Deadly Shooting That Claims Life of 18-Year-Old Anthony Marsh
SELMA, AL – A somber investigation is now underway in Selma following a fatal shooting that occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, leaving one young man dead and a second victim hospitalized. The incident, which unfolded on the 2500 block of Summerfield Road around 3:00 a.m., has shaken the local community and prompted a swift response from law enforcement.
According to Selma Police Lieutenant Ray Blanks, officers were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, they discovered a male victim suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Tragically, the man—later identified as 18-year-old Anthony Marsh, a Black male—was pronounced dead at the scene.
“This is an active and ongoing investigation,” said Lt. Blanks. “Our officers immediately began canvassing the area, interviewing witnesses, and collecting evidence to determine what exactly led to this tragedy.”
A second victim, a female who has not yet been publicly identified, was also injured in the shooting. She was transported to Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery, where she is currently listed in stable condition. Authorities have not released further details about the nature of her injuries or her connection to the events that unfolded.
Dallas County District Attorney Robert Turner, Jr. confirmed that two individuals have been detained for questioning in relation to the case. At this time, no formal charges have been filed, and their identities remain undisclosed pending further investigation.
“Right now, we are trying to piece together the timeline,” Lt. Blanks explained. “We do know there was some kind of altercation that led to the shooting, but the exact nature and cause of that conflict are still being determined. We are speaking with everyone who was present, gathering statements, and reviewing any surveillance footage that may be available.”
The neighborhood along Summerfield Road remained cordoned off for several hours on Sunday morning as detectives scoured the area for shell casings, ballistic evidence, and other clues that might help reconstruct the events leading up to the fatal shooting. Residents in the area expressed concern and grief as news of the violence spread.
“I heard the shots and then sirens shortly after,” one resident told local reporters. “It’s heartbreaking to hear someone so young lost their life.”
Community leaders are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward. Both the Selma Police Department and Central Alabama Crimestoppers are appealing to the public to assist in the investigation.
“If you saw anything, heard anything, or know anything, please don’t hesitate to contact us,” urged Lt. Blanks. “Even the smallest detail could help us bring closure to Anthony’s family and ensure justice is served.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Selma Police at (334) 874-1161, or Crimestoppers at 215-STOP. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
As the investigation unfolds, the Selma community continues to grapple with yet another episode of gun violence that has claimed a young life and left lasting scars. Friends and family of Anthony Marsh are mourning his loss, remembering him as a young man with potential and a future that was cut tragically short. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
