SAN ANTONIO – Woman in Critical Condition After Being Shot in the Head During Domestic Dispute on Northwest Side
SAN ANTONIO, TX — A woman is fighting for her life after sustaining a gunshot wound to the head during a violent incident early Monday morning on San Antonio’s Northwest Side, according to police.
Authorities responded to the 12000 block of Spring Park Street, located not far from Lackland Air Force Base, just after 12:30 a.m. on Monday, May 5, following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered a woman suffering from a critical head injury caused by a gunshot.
The unidentified woman was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where she remains in critical condition, fighting for her life. Her name and age have not yet been released as authorities work to notify next of kin.
According to preliminary reports from the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), the shooting occurred following an apparent domestic dispute between the woman and her boyfriend. Witnesses in the area reported hearing yelling shortly before the sound of a gunshot echoed through the neighborhood.
At this time, investigators are working to determine whether the woman shot herself during the confrontation or if she was shot by her boyfriend. The boyfriend, whose identity has also not been released, is currently in police custody for questioning, though no formal charges have been filed.
“The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear,” said an SAPD spokesperson. “We’re conducting a thorough investigation, speaking to all witnesses, and reviewing any available evidence, including forensic details and statements from individuals involved.”
The residence where the incident occurred has been cordoned off as crime scene investigators continue their work, documenting the scene and collecting any physical evidence that may help clarify the chain of events.
Neighbors on Spring Park Street expressed shock and concern over the violence, with many saying they were awakened by the police response in the early morning hours. Some noted that the couple had lived in the area for a short time, and there had been no prior signs of trouble.
This shooting comes amid increasing attention to domestic violence cases in the region, with advocates calling for more resources and early intervention to prevent escalation to tragic outcomes.
As of now, the case remains an active and ongoing investigation, and police have not ruled out any possibilities.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the San Antonio Police Department’s Homicide Unit or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 210-224-STOP (7867).
