SAN ANTONIO – Community Mourns Loss of Woman Killed in Northeast Side Crash; Investigation Ongoing

A tragic traffic collision on San Antonio’s Northeast Side has claimed the life of 50-year-old Nayda Velez de Guijarro, a beloved community member whose sudden passing has left friends, family, and neighbors in shock. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office officially confirmed her identity following the devastating crash that occurred Friday afternoon.

The fatal incident unfolded at the busy intersection of Harry Wurzbach Road and Loop 410, a high-traffic area known for heavy congestion and frequent accidents. According to the San Antonio Police Department, the crash involved two vehicles: a white Dodge Ram and a black Toyota Tacoma. Investigators say the Dodge Ram was heading southbound at a high rate of speed on Harry Wurzbach Road when it collided with the Tacoma, which was attempting to make a left turn at Dalewood Place.

The impact was severe. The front of the speeding Ram slammed into the passenger side of the Tacoma, where Velez de Guijarro was seated. The force of the crash caused both vehicles to spin violently into the center of the intersection, sending debris flying and prompting a swift emergency response from first responders.

Despite immediate efforts by paramedics, Nayda Velez de Guijarro was pronounced dead at the scene due to the life-threatening injuries sustained in the collision. Her death has sent shockwaves through her community, where she was known as a kind, devoted individual with deep ties to her family and neighborhood.

The driver of the Toyota Tacoma, whose name has not been released, was transported to a nearby hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. The driver of the Dodge Ram also survived the crash and was taken to the hospital for treatment. However, authorities say charges may be pending against that driver, as the high rate of speed is being scrutinized as a contributing factor in the fatal crash.

Police have not disclosed whether alcohol, drugs, or distracted driving were involved. The investigation is still active, with officers reconstructing the scene and reviewing surveillance footage, if available, to determine the exact sequence of events.

Community members have begun leaving flowers at the intersection in honor of Velez de Guijarro, remembering her as a warm-hearted and generous person who will be sorely missed. Local leaders have also renewed calls for traffic calming measures in the area, where residents say excessive speed and aggressive driving are all too common.

As the family of Nayda Velez de Guijarro begins to navigate this heartbreaking loss, they are asking for privacy and prayers. Plans for a memorial or funeral service have not yet been announced.

Authorities urge anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to come forward and contact the San Antonio Police Department’s traffic investigations division.
