Road Rage Turns Violent in Fleming Island: Suspect Arrested for Attempted Murder
FLEMING ISLAND, FL – A routine morning commute turned violent on April 2, 2025, when 26-year-old Angel Valdes opened fire on another vehicle during a road rage altercation near Highway 17 and County Road 220. Valdes now faces two counts of attempted murder after firing three shots at a sedan in what authorities are calling a reckless and dangerous act.
Incident Unfolds Near Busy Intersection
The confrontation began around 6:45 a.m., as a Ford F-150 pickup truck and a sedan traveled southbound toward Live Oak Lane. The sedan signaled and moved into the turn lane, but Valdes, who was driving the F-150, aggressively pulled around the victims and blocked their path.
As traffic stalled, Valdes exited his vehicle, yelling at the sedan’s occupants. Within seconds, he brandished a firearm and fired three shots directly at the vehicle before fleeing southbound on US-17.
Rapid Response Leads to Quick Arrest
The victims, shaken but unharmed, immediately called 911, providing dispatchers with a partial license plate number and a description of the suspect.
Thanks to the Real Time Crime Center’s use of license plate reader technology, investigators were able to identify Valdes’ full plate number and track his vehicle as it traveled toward Green Cove Springs.
In just nine minutes, patrol officers—assisted by the Green Cove Springs Police Department—spotted Valdes’ truck, conducted a traffic stop, and took him into custody without incident. The firearm used in the attack was found inside his vehicle.
Charges & Ongoing Investigation
Valdes has been formally charged with:
🔴 Two Counts of Attempted Murder
🔴 Aggravated Assault with a Firearm
