Remembering Chuck R. Wallace: A Life of Service, Family, and Community

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Chuck R. Wallace, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated member of the Huntingdon community. Chuck, aged 74, passed away on Wednesday morning, April 16, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service, love, and devotion that touched the lives of everyone who knew him.

Born on August 4, 1950, in Milan, Tennessee, Chuck was the son of Avie “Lefty” Wallace and Lucille Clark Wallace. Growing up in Huntingdon, he developed a deep sense of pride in his hometown and its people. Chuck graduated from Huntingdon High School in 1969, and it was clear from an early age that he was destined to serve his community and his country.

In the wake of high school, Chuck enlisted in the Marine Corps and proudly served in Vietnam, where he was a part of the efforts that defended the country during a time of conflict. His service to the nation was something he carried with honor for the rest of his life. After returning home, Chuck transitioned to civilian life, but his commitment to service never wavered.

For 34 years, Chuck worked with the United States Postal Service, where his diligence, reliability, and work ethic earned him the esteemed position of Postmaster. His dedication to his job was evident to all who worked with him, and he retired having served his community in an essential and steadfast capacity.

In addition to his work at the post office, Chuck was a strong pillar in the community. He served as President of both the Lions and Rotary Clubs, organizations that embody the principles of service, fellowship, and giving back. His leadership within these groups allowed him to make a lasting impact, fostering a sense of unity and commitment to the betterment of those around him.

Chuck had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed activities such as golf, fishing, and hunting. Whether on the greens or casting a line, Chuck appreciated the peace that nature brought, and these pastimes provided him with moments of joy and relaxation that he cherished throughout his life.

Above all, Chuck was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a loving partner to his wife, Hilda Cawthon Wallace, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage. Their bond was one built on love, respect, and shared memories. Chuck was also a proud father to his two sons, Stuart (partner Phil Cobucci) of Nashville and Nathan (wife Kelley) of Huntingdon. As a grandfather, Chuck found great joy in spending time with his two grandsons, Jack and Brady, who were a central part of his life.

Chuck’s love for family extended beyond his immediate household. He is also survived by his two brothers, Danny (Judy) and Carl (Joan) Wallace of Huntingdon, and two sisters, Treva Avery Smith of Cedar Grove and Lecia Wallace of Jackson. His family ties were strong, and he cherished the relationships he had with his extended family, including several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The Celebration of Life for Chuck will be held on Saturday, April 26th, at noon at Paul Ward Stadium. In the case of inclement weather, the service will be moved to the Huntingdon High School gymnasium. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, leading into the service at 12:00 PM. His family and friends invite those who knew Chuck to join in honoring his life and the many ways he impacted his community.

Arrangements are being handled by Dilday-Carter Funeral Home (731-986-8281).

Chuck’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was a man who lived his life with integrity, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to his country, his family, and his community. His memory will live on in the stories shared by those who loved him, and the legacy of service he leaves behind will continue to inspire all who knew him.
