Remembering Carlos Ramirez Chaidez: A Life Cut Short in Winton Tragedy
The Winton community in Merced County is mourning the tragic loss of 17-year-old Carlos Ramirez Chaidez, who was fatally shot during a party on Sunday, April 27, 2025. The incident occurred around midnight on Gertrude Avenue near North Winton Way.
According to the Merced County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of a shooting at the party and found Chaidez and two other individuals with gunshot wounds. Chaidez had been shot in the thigh; deputies applied a tourniquet before paramedics arrived. He was transported to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Witnesses reported hearing gang-related slurs prior to the shooting, leading investigators to believe the incident may be gang-related. The Merced County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the case and urges anyone with information to come forward.
