Primera Police: Man Dead from Self-Inflicted Gunshot After Shooting Ex-Wife and Stepdaughter

PRIMERA, TX — A domestic violence incident in Primera has left one man dead and two others injured after a shocking series of events unfolded on Primera Road. According to Primera Police Chief James Harris, the suspect, identified as Omar Molina, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after shooting both his ex-wife and 14-year-old stepdaughter on Wednesday.

Police say Molina forcibly entered his ex-wife’s home, where the shooting took place. The motive, according to Chief Harris, appears to stem from a police report previously filed by the ex-wife and her daughter against Molina. Authorities believe this report may have triggered the violent confrontation.

Upon entering the home, Molina allegedly shot his ex-wife in the leg. Moments later, he turned the gun on his 14-year-old stepdaughter, shooting her in the foot. After injuring both, Molina turned the weapon on himself, firing a single shot that left him critically wounded.

Emergency responders arrived quickly at the scene. Molina was transported to a local hospital in critical condition but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. His death has been ruled a suicide.

Fortunately, both the ex-wife and the teenage girl survived the attack and are expected to recover. Medical officials have confirmed that their injuries, though traumatic, are not life-threatening. The mother and daughter are currently receiving medical treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.

“This was a tragic and terrifying situation for everyone involved,” said Chief Harris during a press briefing Thursday morning. “We’re grateful the two victims are going to be okay, but it’s heartbreaking that this family had to endure such violence.”

Authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident, which they are categorizing as a case of domestic violence escalating into attempted homicide and suicide. Police are also reviewing the earlier report filed by the victims, which may provide more insight into the nature of Molina’s threats or behavior prior to the attack.

Neighbors in the typically quiet community of Primera expressed shock and sadness over the incident, saying there were no obvious signs that something so violent was about to unfold. “It’s just horrifying,” said one resident. “You never think something like this will happen so close to home.”

Local advocacy groups are using the incident as a stark reminder of the dangers victims can face even after taking legal steps to protect themselves. “This tragic event highlights how urgent and complex domestic violence situations are,” said a spokesperson for a local women’s shelter. “It’s essential that victims have access to safety planning, legal protections, and immediate support services.”

No charges will be filed, as Molina is deceased. However, police say the case remains open as they examine all the events that led up to the shooting, including any previous threats or restraining orders that may have been in place.

Anyone experiencing domestic violence or who knows someone in danger is urged to contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 or seek help through local services immediately.
