Pend Oreille County Fire District 4 Mourns the Sudden Loss of Volunteer Firefighter Larry Naccarato
With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, Pend Oreille County Fire District 4 (POFD4) announces the tragic passing of one of our own — Volunteer Firefighter Larry Naccarato, who was just 26 years old. Larry’s untimely death has left a deep void within our department and in the hearts of all who had the honor of serving alongside him. As we come to terms with this devastating loss, our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to Larry’s family, friends, and the broader community he so selflessly served.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the cause of Larry’s death. At this time, no further details have been released, and we are respecting the privacy of his loved ones during this incredibly difficult period. Information regarding funeral or memorial services has not yet been made available. However, District 4 will share updates with the public as soon as arrangements are confirmed.
Larry Naccarato was more than just a firefighter — he was a compassionate teammate, a loyal friend, and a brave soul who stepped up to protect others. Volunteering to serve in the fire service is a commitment that comes from the heart, and Larry embodied the very spirit of service and sacrifice that defines the fire family. In training sessions, emergency responses, and everyday station life, he showed integrity, dedication, and a quiet strength that earned the respect of all who knew him.
Though Larry’s time with us was tragically short, the impact he made was lasting. He leaves behind not only grieving family and friends, but also a fire district united in mourning the loss of one of our own. His memory will live on in our firehouses, in the stories we share, and in the continued work we do to serve the people of Pend Oreille County — work that Larry so proudly contributed to.
The days ahead will be filled with reflection, remembrance, and the slow process of healing. As we grieve together, we encourage community members to reach out with support, to honor Larry’s legacy in their own way, and to keep his loved ones in their hearts. The brotherhood and sisterhood of the fire service is strong, and while we are shaken by this loss, we stand together in solidarity and strength.
Rest in peace, Firefighter Larry Naccarato. Thank you for your service, your courage, and your heart. You will forever remain part of the POFD4 family.
