Ongoing Dispute Leads to Juvenile Crashing Into Another Juvenile and Dollar Tree in Bishopville; Multiple Arrests Made

BISHOPVILLE, S.C. — What began as an ongoing dispute between juveniles took a dangerous and chaotic turn in Bishopville over the weekend, ending in a violent crash that involved multiple injuries and arrests, including adults and juveniles.

According to authorities, the incident unfolded near the Dollar Tree store located in the heart of Bishopville. Law enforcement reports indicate that a juvenile operating a vehicle struck another juvenile, reportedly as a result of an ongoing altercation. The collision caused the vehicle to careen out of control, crashing into the front of the Dollar Tree store. The impact caused the vehicle to roll over and ultimately collide with another parked vehicle in the store’s lot, resulting in extensive property damage and raising serious concerns about public safety.

Bystanders at the scene described a moment of chaos and confusion, with glass shattering and customers inside the store scrambling to safety. Emergency responders arrived promptly, tending to the injured juveniles and securing the area. Authorities have confirmed that no life-threatening injuries were sustained, though several individuals were treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital.

Following the incident, Bishopville police arrested two adults in connection with the event: 19-year-old Celvin Hickman and 24-year-old Shamirah Blyther. Their specific roles in the lead-up to the crash have not been publicly disclosed, but officials say they were involved in the larger dispute that escalated to violence. Both now face a series of charges related to endangerment, inciting violence among minors, and contributing to the delinquency of juveniles.

In addition to the adult arrests, three juveniles were also charged in connection with the incident. Law enforcement officials have not released their identities due to their age but confirmed that the charges range from assault to reckless endangerment and property damage. The driver of the vehicle that crashed into the store is among those charged and may face further legal consequences as the investigation continues.

The Bishopville Police Department emphasized the serious nature of the incident and the broader dangers of unresolved disputes among youth. “This was a preventable tragedy,” said Chief of Police, “and it highlights the urgent need for conflict resolution resources and community engagement, especially among our younger residents.”

The Dollar Tree sustained significant damage to its storefront, with operations temporarily suspended pending repairs and structural evaluations. Store officials have stated they are cooperating fully with law enforcement and will support any efforts to ensure the safety of their staff and patrons going forward.

Local leaders are calling for increased intervention programs for at-risk youth in the area. Community organizations and schools are being encouraged to offer mediation and support services to help de-escalate conflicts before they reach dangerous levels.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash and are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has additional information to come forward.
