One Dead, Two Injured in Tragic Two-Vehicle Crash at Hoosick Intersection
HOOSICK, N.Y. — A devastating two-vehicle crash at the intersection of State Route 7 and State Route 22 in Hoosick, New York, has claimed the life of one woman and left two others injured. The driver of the Mazda, identified as 25-year-old Susan Alexis Joe of Petersburgh, New York, was found outside her vehicle with apparent injuries to her leg and hip. The red Honda sedan was occupied by two elderly women from Massachusetts. The driver, 82-year-old Elizabeth Cain of North Adams, and her front-seat passenger, 84-year-old Claire Boyer of Williamstown, remained in the vehicle when troopers arrived. Cain had to be extricated by first responders due to the damage sustained in the collision. She was also transported to Albany Medical Center with a suspected leg injury.
Tragically, despite the rapid response and life-saving efforts administered on-site, Claire Boyer was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her loss has left her family, friends, and community in mourning. Boyer was remembered by those who knew her as a loving and spirited individual, active in her community and known for her kindness.
Preliminary findings from the ongoing investigation suggest that Elizabeth Cain was traveling northbound on State Route 22 and was attempting to make a left turn to head westbound onto State Route 7. During that maneuver, her vehicle entered the path of the eastbound Mazda driven by Joe, resulting in the high-impact collision.
New York State Police are continuing to investigate the crash, including examining potential factors such as speed, visibility, and any possible mechanical failure. No charges have been filed at this time, and authorities have not indicated whether any citations are forthcoming.
