One Dead, Two Injured in Overnight Shooting at Southwest Lubbock Party
LUBBOCK, Texas – A late-night party in southwest Lubbock ended in tragedy early Sunday morning after gunfire erupted, leaving one man dead and two others injured.
According to the Lubbock Police Department, officers were first dispatched just before midnight to the area near 76th Street and Chicago Avenue after neighbors reported a loud party. At 12:44 a.m., a second call came into dispatch reporting shots fired at the same location.
When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered 20-year-old Deon Lilly suffering from a gunshot wound. Lilly was rushed to University Medical Center (UMC), but despite efforts from medical staff, he was later pronounced deceased. His death has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving family and friends devastated.
Authorities also confirmed that two additional victims were injured during the incident. An 18-year-old male arrived at UMC with a gunshot wound, while a 16-year-old male was treated at Covenant Medical Center for lacerations to his arm. Their conditions have not yet been publicly released.
Police remained at the scene through the night, securing the area and collecting evidence while speaking with potential witnesses. Images from the scene show multiple patrol units and officers investigating near the neighborhood where the gathering took place.
The Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit has taken the lead in the investigation, which remains active and ongoing. Detectives are working to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting and whether it stemmed from an altercation at the party. At this time, no arrests have been announced.
