Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Walhalla Man in Sunday Morning Homicide

Walhalla, SC – The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has made an arrest in connection with a homicide investigation following the discovery of a deceased male inside a residence early Sunday morning.

Caleb Aguirre, 23, of Thompson Avenue in Walhalla, was taken into custody and booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at approximately 8:31 a.m. today under a Temporary Custody Order. Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau have officially charged Aguirre with one count of murder in relation to the incident.

The case began in the early hours of Sunday when the E-911 Communications Center received a call around 5:30 a.m. reporting the discovery of a male who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds inside a residence on Snead Road, just outside of Walhalla. Deputies from the Uniform Patrol Bureau, along with paramedics, responded swiftly to the scene. Upon arrival, they confirmed the male victim was deceased. The Oconee County Coroner’s Office was immediately notified.

As the investigation unfolded, the case was handed over to detectives from the Violent Crimes Unit of the Criminal Investigations Bureau. While processing the scene and gathering evidence, investigators received a tip about a potential suspect, later identified as Caleb Aguirre.

At approximately 6:05 a.m., dispatchers were informed that Aguirre was at a residence on Thompson Road with a family member. An investigator responded to the location, made contact with Aguirre, and placed him under arrest without incident. He was then transported to the detention center for processing.

According to the arrest warrants, Aguirre is accused of shooting the victim multiple times in the torso, resulting in the victim’s death. The Oconee County Coroner’s Office later identified the deceased as 24-year-old Brandon Alvarado-Gaspar.

In a statement released by the Sheriff’s Office, investigators emphasized that the homicide appears to be an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. While a motive has not yet been disclosed, officials confirmed that the investigation remains active and ongoing.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone who may have additional information related to the case to come forward as they continue to gather details and build their case against Aguirre.

No additional suspects are being sought at this time.
