Oak Creek, WI — Community Mourns Beloved Couple Killed in Tragic Crash: Thomas and Sharon Robe Remembered for a Lifetime of Love and Service

Heartbreak has struck the Oak Creek community following the tragic deaths of Thomas and Sharon Robe, a beloved couple who lost their lives in a car crash on Friday night in Marinette County. The crash occurred when another driver reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign, violently colliding with the Robes’ vehicle.

The couple, who had just celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary last week, were en route to their family’s cherished vacation home up north—a treasured Memorial Day tradition that had become a cornerstone of their family life.

“It was probably 8:30 when I got off the phone with them,” said Steve Robe, the couple’s eldest son. “It was a great conversation about how excited we were. It was going to be another Memorial Day for our family.”

Those would be the last words shared between Steve and his parents.

A Life Built on Love, Dedication, and Service

Thomas and Sharon Robe were more than just longtime residents of Oak Creek—they were pillars of their community. Known for their unwavering commitment to family, their church, and numerous civic initiatives, the Robes were the kind of neighbors who never hesitated to lend a hand or share a warm smile.

Thomas, often described as steady, kind-hearted, and community-minded, was a retired firefighter who spent much of his life protecting others. Sharon, equally beloved, was active in local volunteer efforts and was especially known for her work with youth programs and neighborhood outreach. Together, they built a life centered on service, faith, and the value of human connection.

“They were just always there,” said longtime family friend Karen Lutz. “Barbecues, school fundraisers, Christmas drives—you name it. Tom and Sharon were always at the heart of it, giving of themselves.”

A Family Shattered, a Community in Mourning

The news of their sudden passing has devastated their family and shocked the community. Friends, neighbors, and those touched by the couple’s warmth are rallying around the Robe family during this difficult time.

“They were my everything,” said one of their grandchildren. “From teaching us how to fish to making pancakes every Sunday at the cabin—those memories are what we’ll hold onto.”

The couple leaves behind three children and seven grandchildren. A memorial service is being planned, with details to be shared in the coming days.

Ongoing Investigation

Authorities in Marinette County have confirmed that the driver responsible for the collision failed to stop at a clearly marked stop sign. An investigation is ongoing to determine whether speed, distraction, or impairment were factors in the crash. No additional details have been released, but the community hopes accountability will bring at least a measure of peace to the grieving family.

Honoring Their Legacy

As Oak Creek residents begin to grapple with the loss of two of their own, tributes have poured in on social media and through handwritten notes left outside the Robe family home.

“Tom and Sharon were examples of how to live a good life,” said Oak Creek Mayor Dan Bukiewicz. “They gave their time, their love, and their hearts to this community. They will not be forgotten.”

In lieu of flowers, the Robe family is asking for donations to be made to local charities the couple supported, including the Oak Creek Firefighter’s Foundation and the South Milwaukee Food Pantry.

The sudden loss of Thomas and Sharon Robe is a reminder of the fragility of life, even for those who seem larger than it. As their family mourns, so too does a community that was better for having known them.
