New Britain Murder Suspect Arrested in Meriden

NEW BRITAIN, CT — A weeks-long investigation into a deadly shooting in New Britain has led to the arrest of a suspect. Authorities confirmed that 28-year-old Joel Sanchez was taken into custody Friday night in Meriden in connection with the murder of 42-year-old Jayson Bruno-Matos, of Bristol.

The homicide occurred on August 23, when officers responded to reports of a shooting that claimed Bruno-Matos’s life. Following the incident, police launched an extensive investigation to track down the individual responsible.

On Friday, detectives received credible information suggesting that the suspect was in the Meriden area. With assistance from the Meriden Police Department, officers located Sanchez in the area of Broad Street and successfully arrested him without incident.

Sanchez is now facing several serious charges, including:

  • Murder

  • Criminal Possession of a Firearm

  • Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm
