The Nacogdoches community is reeling from the heartbreaking loss of Dakoda Wayne Bennefield, 27, and his mother, Nancy Michelle Bennefield, 54, who tragically lost their lives in a two-vehicle collision on Friday, April 25, 2025, along Highway 21 East.
The Incident
At approximately 12:43 p.m., emergency responders were dispatched to the 4000 block of East Main Street (Highway 21 East) following reports of a major accident involving a Chevrolet pickup truck and an Isuzu box truck.
Preliminary investigations by the Nacogdoches Police Department indicate that the Isuzu box truck, driven by Chaz Jones, 28, of Lufkin, was traveling westbound when it swerved into the eastbound lane to avoid a stopped vehicle, resulting in a head-on collision with the Bennefields’ pickup truck.
Dakoda Bennefield was pronounced dead at the scene. His mother, Nancy, was transported to Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Chaz Jones sustained severe injuries and was also taken to the hospital for treatment.
