Murder Investigation Underway in Runge, Texas: Victim Identified as Michelle Jannsen (Vasquez)

Authorities in Karnes County are investigating a tragic homicide that occurred late Thursday night in Runge, Texas, after a woman was fatally shot at a residence on the 800 block of Leckie Street.
At 10:52 p.m., first responders from the Karnes County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) and Karnes County EMS were dispatched to the scene following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies and medical personnel immediately began providing first aid to the victim. Despite their efforts, the woman succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The victim has since been identified as Michelle Jannsen (Vasquez). Authorities confirmed that her next of kin has been notified.
Investigation and Inquest
Karnes County Justice of the Peace #4 D. Sotello was called to the scene, where the official time of death was pronounced. Judge Sotello also ordered a death inquest to further investigate the circumstances surrounding the case.
The KCSO Criminal Investigations Division secured the crime scene and began collecting evidence, including physical materials and witness statements. Investigators have confirmed that a suspect fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. At this time, an arrest warrant for murder is actively pending.
