Milton Teen Killed in Bicycle-Vehicle Collision in Rural Montour County

A tragic accident in rural Montour County claimed the life of an 18-year-old Milton resident on Saturday night when the bicycle he was riding was struck by a vehicle, authorities said.

Montour County Coroner Scott Lynn identified the victim as Nathaniel Martin. The crash occurred at approximately 8:40 p.m. along Route 254 near the intersection of Quarry Road in Limestone Township.

According to Lynn, Martin was riding his bicycle westbound on Route 254 alongside his brother, Neill Martin, when he entered the lane of travel and was struck by a vehicle traveling in the same direction. The coroner noted that the bicycle was not equipped with any lighting or reflectors, and Nathaniel Martin was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

Emergency responders from the Washingtonville Fire Department, Valley Township Fire Department, Geisinger EMS, and PennDOT rushed to the scene. Despite their efforts, Martin was pronounced dead at the scene from blunt force head injuries. His brother and the driver of the vehicle were not injured.

State police at Milton, along with the coroner’s office, are conducting a joint investigation into the circumstances of the crash. Toxicology tests will be performed as part of standard procedure.

The incident has left the Milton community in mourning, as friends and neighbors process the sudden loss of a young man whose life ended far too soon. Authorities are also using this tragedy as a reminder of the importance of bicycle safety, especially the use of helmets, reflective gear, and proper lighting when riding at night.

No charges have been announced, and investigators have not released further details about the driver or whether speed or other factors may have contributed to the collision.

Funeral arrangements for Nathaniel Martin have not yet been announced.
