Michigan State Police Trooper Involved in Shooting During Traffic Stop on S M-10 at Wyoming
DETROIT, MI — A Michigan State Police (MSP) trooper from the Second District was involved in a shooting incident on the evening of Friday, May 16, 2025, during a routine traffic stop on South M-10 near Wyoming Avenue in Detroit. The incident occurred around 7:50 p.m. and has resulted in injuries to both the trooper and the suspect, according to preliminary information released by MSP.
According to initial reports, the Metro South trooper initiated a traffic stop and soon radioed dispatch to report that he was engaged in a physical altercation with the suspect. Moments later, the trooper advised over radio communications that he had been shot and had returned fire, striking the suspect.
Emergency medical services were quickly dispatched to the scene. The injured trooper was transported to Sinai Grace Hospital for treatment. Michigan State Police have not yet released his condition, but a Public Information Officer (PIO) was dispatched to the hospital to provide updates to the media and public as more information becomes available.
The suspect involved in the altercation was also wounded by the return gunfire and has been transported to a local medical facility. The severity of the suspect’s injuries has not been disclosed at this time.
The Michigan State Police have emphasized that all details are preliminary and that a full investigation is now underway. The area around South M-10 and Wyoming was temporarily shut down as law enforcement secured the scene, collected evidence, and ensured public safety.
