Manhunt Intensifies in Slidell for Escaped Inmate Corey Boyd Amidst Orleans Justice Center Jailbreak Fallout
SLIDELL, La. — A significant law enforcement operation is underway in the Kingspoint neighborhood of Slidell, Louisiana, as authorities search for Corey Boyd, one of the inmates who recently escaped from the Orleans Justice Center. Residents in the Old Kingspoint area reported a heavy deployment of law enforcement vehicles and tactical units, with the Louisiana State Police, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and SWAT teams reportedly surrounding a residence believed to be connected to Boyd.
Background on Corey Boyd and the Jailbreak
Corey Boyd, 22, was awaiting trial on charges including second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, obstruction of justice, and threatening a law enforcement officer. In July 2022, he escaped from the Bridge City Center and was later accused of carjacking and shooting a man in Uptown New Orleans. He was indicted in that case.
On May 16, 2025, Boyd was among ten inmates who escaped from the Orleans Justice Center in New Orleans. The escape involved the inmates exploiting faulty infrastructure by slipping through a hole behind a toilet and scaling a wall. As of May 19, six inmates remain at large, prompting a reward increase to $20,000 each by the FBI, ATF, and CrimeStoppers.
Inside Assistance and Ongoing Investigations
The escape has prompted investigations into possible inside assistance. Sterling Williams, a 33-year-old maintenance worker at the Orleans Parish Justice Center, was arrested and accused of helping facilitate the breakout. Williams allegedly shut off the water to a toilet to help clear the way for the inmates to escape. He is facing 10 counts of principal to simple escape and one count of malfeasance in office.
Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson acknowledged the possibility of internal assistance in the escape and promised a thorough investigation into security lapses. The jail has since been placed on lockdown as the investigation continues.
Community Impact and Safety Measures
The presence of an escaped inmate in Slidell has raised concerns among local residents. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The manhunt for Corey Boyd is part of a broader regional effort to locate and apprehend the remaining escapees from the Orleans Justice Center jailbreak, which has sparked widespread concern and prompted calls for increased oversight of jail security protocols.
Further updates will be provided as law enforcement agencies release official statements regarding the operation.
