Man Found Shot to Death in Front of Macon Home Sunday Morning
Authorities in Bibb County are investigating a fatal shooting after a man was discovered dead outside a home in Macon early Sunday morning.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and the county coroner’s office, deputies were called to the 1800 block of Sussex Drive, near the intersection of Canterbury Road, after a homeowner reported finding an unresponsive man in the front yard. The call came in just before 8 a.m.
When officials arrived on scene, they found 30-year-old Aubrey Randall Williams suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Coroner Leon Jones confirmed that Williams did not live at the residence where his body was discovered.
Chief Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley pronounced Williams dead at the scene at approximately 8:30 a.m. Authorities said Williams’ family was notified of his death by late morning, around 11:30 a.m.
As of Monday morning, it remained unclear whether a suspect had been identified or taken into custody. Investigators continued to piece together what led to the shooting, including whether Williams had any connection to the area where he was found.
The incident left residents of the quiet neighborhood unsettled. Sussex Drive, located off Canterbury Road, is typically considered a calm residential area, making the discovery particularly alarming to those who live nearby.
Sheriff’s deputies urged anyone with information that may be connected to the case to come forward. Witnesses or community members who may have heard or seen anything unusual in the area around the time of the incident are encouraged to contact the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500, or provide anonymous tips through Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
The investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected to be released as detectives continue their work.
