Lorimor Mourns the Heartbreaking Loss of 21-Year-Old Alex Carrigan
LORIMOR, IA — A deep sense of sorrow hangs over the small town of Lorimor, Iowa, following the untimely death of Alex Carrigan, a 21-year-old beloved resident who passed away on April 29, 2025, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Alex’s passing has left family, friends, and the entire Lorimor community reeling, as they come to terms with the sudden loss of a young man whose life was filled with kindness, dreams, and promise. Though details surrounding his passing have not been publicly disclosed, those who knew him are remembering Alex for the light he brought into the world, even during his short time here.
Born and raised in Union County, Alex grew up surrounded by the values of hard work, loyalty, and small-town solidarity. A graduate of East Union High School, he was known among classmates and teachers for his respectful nature, quick wit, and boundless curiosity. Friends often describe him as a “gentle soul” with a strong work ethic and a soft spot for helping others.
After high school, Alex began working in local trades, contributing to the community through hands-on work that mirrored his grounded and humble personality. He had recently been considering enrolling in a technical college program to further his skills, always seeking growth and new opportunities. His friends say he had big plans for the future — plans that were tragically cut short.
Beyond his professional aspirations, Alex was known for his warm heart and his commitment to his loved ones. He was especially close with his family — a devoted son, brother, grandson, and cousin. He could often be found spending weekends with relatives, fishing at nearby lakes, helping with chores around the family home, or simply enjoying a quiet bonfire under the Iowa sky.
“Alex had this way of making people feel at ease,” said family friend Tracy Miller. “He didn’t speak loudly, but when he did, you listened. He had a heart that just wanted to do right by people.”
His sudden death has shaken this tight-knit town, where neighbors know each other by name and support comes in waves during times of grief. A candlelight vigil is being organized by community members at the Lorimor City Park for Friday evening, where friends and family will share memories, light candles in his honor, and remember a life that touched so many.
A GoFundMe campaign has also been launched to help support the Carrigan family with funeral expenses and other immediate needs. Donations have already begun pouring in from residents across Union County, many of whom never met Alex personally but want to offer comfort during this difficult time.
Alex Carrigan is survived by his parents, Michael and Karen Carrigan, his younger sister Emily, and his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and extended family who all adored him. His funeral service will be held at Creston Community Church on Monday, May 5, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and a memorial service to follow at noon. The family welcomes all who wish to celebrate Alex’s life and say a final goodbye.
As the town of Lorimor mourns, they also remember — not just the loss, but the love, the memories, and the impact of a young man gone too soon.
