KDPS Investigates West Michigan Avenue Shooting; Four Victims Hospitalized, Suspect at Large

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Officers with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) are actively investigating a shooting that unfolded in the 2700 block of West Michigan Avenue late Friday night, leaving four individuals injured and hospitalized.

According to KDPS officials, the incident occurred in an area that typically sees high levels of both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene after reports of gunfire, locating multiple victims. All four were transported to nearby hospitals where they remain in stable condition, authorities confirmed.

At this time, the suspected shooter remains outstanding. However, police stressed that there is no known active threat to the broader community, though they have urged residents and visitors to remain vigilant while the investigation continues.

A large police presence is expected in the area for several hours as investigators collect evidence, interview witnesses, and canvass the neighborhood. The motive behind the shooting has not yet been disclosed, and it remains unclear whether the victims or suspect were known to each other.
