KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The south side of Kansas City is reeling after a deadly shooting claimed the life of 24-year-old Jaida Perdue on the morning of Tuesday, July 15, 2025. The Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) has launched a homicide investigation following the tragic events that unfolded at an apartment on Countryshire Lane, near Blue Ridge Boulevard, just after 11:45 a.m.
Initially, dispatchers reported that the incident involved critical injuries, but by early afternoon, police confirmed the worst — the shooting was now being treated as a homicide investigation.
According to preliminary findings, the shooting stemmed from an argument between two individuals, escalating quickly and turning deadly when shots were fired. Jaida Perdue was struck during the exchange and succumbed to her injuries despite the efforts of first responders. The police have confirmed that one person has been taken into custody in connection with the shooting, though the investigation remains ongoing, and formal charges are pending further inquiry.
Authorities emphasized that this incident appears to be isolated and the result of a personal dispute, with no immediate threat to the broader public.
Adding to the unsettling nature of the day’s events, another deadly shooting occurred around the same time, approximately four miles away on Oak Leaf Drive, near Crabapple Lane. While both shootings happened in south Kansas City within minutes of each other, police have stressed that the two incidents are not connected in any way.
