Investigation Underway After Daytime Shooting in Reedley Leaves One Injured
REEDLEY, CA — A police investigation is currently underway after a person was shot in Reedley late Friday morning, prompting brief lockdowns at two nearby schools and raising concerns throughout the community.
According to authorities, the shooting occurred around 11:30 a.m. in the area of El Dorado and Columbia avenues, a mostly residential neighborhood near several schools and local businesses. Responding officers from the Reedley Police Department confirmed that one individual was found at the scene with a gunshot wound. The extent of the victim’s injuries and their current condition have not yet been publicly disclosed.
Police have not released any identifying information about the victim, nor have they confirmed whether any suspects have been apprehended or remain at large. The motive behind the shooting is still unclear, and investigators are urging members of the public to come forward with any information that could assist in solving the case.
As a precautionary measure, Kings Canyon Unified School District initiated lockdown protocols at Grant Middle School and Mountain View School, both of which are located in proximity to the crime scene. The district quickly assured parents and guardians that all students and staff were safe, and the lockdowns were lifted shortly after the immediate threat was resolved.
“The safety of our students is always our top priority,” a statement from Kings Canyon Unified read. “We thank local law enforcement for their prompt response and continued presence in the area.”
The shooting has rattled residents of Reedley, a city known for its tight-knit community and relatively quiet neighborhoods. Several locals expressed concern over the violence occurring so close to schools and in broad daylight.
“It’s terrifying,” said one resident who lives two blocks from the scene. “You don’t expect this kind of thing to happen here—especially when kids are at school just down the street.”
Reedley police have increased patrols in the surrounding area and have set up a tip line for anyone who may have seen or heard something relevant to the investigation. Officers were seen canvassing the area Friday afternoon, speaking to neighbors and searching for surveillance footage from nearby homes or businesses.
At this time, no arrests have been made, and the Reedley Police Department continues to treat the shooting as an active investigation.
