INGLEWOOD, Calif. — A former security guard is facing serious criminal charges following a deadly workplace shooting that took place on May 2, 2025, at Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in Inglewood, California. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has formally charged 40-year-old Jesse Figueroa with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder in connection with the tragic incident.
According to officials, the shooting occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Friday afternoon inside an administrative office on the college campus, located at 8911 Aviation Boulevard. Authorities allege that Figueroa, who was previously employed by the college as a security guard, entered the building dressed in a security uniform and opened fire on two employees in what officials describe as a targeted and violent attack.
One of the victims, identified as Dr. Cameisha Clark, the college’s Dean of Student Affairs, sustained critical gunshot wounds and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite emergency efforts, Dr. Clark was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival. The second victim, whose identity has not been released publicly, survived the attack and is reportedly recovering from injuries sustained during the shooting.
District Attorney George Gascón issued a statement condemning the violence, expressing deep condolences to the family and loved ones of Dr. Clark. “This was a senseless act of violence that took the life of a dedicated educator and deeply impacted the lives of many in our community,” Gascón said. “We will pursue justice for the victims and hold the accused accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
Witnesses at the scene described a chaotic and terrifying moment as gunfire erupted within the typically quiet administrative area of the college. Several students and staff members were evacuated from surrounding buildings as law enforcement responded to the active shooter situation. Figueroa was taken into custody without incident shortly after the shooting and has remained in jail pending formal charges and arraignment.
Investigators are still working to determine a motive behind the attack, but early indications suggest that Figueroa may have held personal grievances related to his prior employment at the college. Officials have not released details on how long Figueroa had worked at the institution or the circumstances surrounding his departure.
