In Memory of Scott: A Spark in NEPA’s Cider Scene and a Friend to All
We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Scott, a passionate cider maker, visionary, and truly remarkable human being. His loss is one that reverberates far beyond the orchards, fermentation tanks, and taprooms—it’s felt in every corner of the community he so vibrantly enriched.
I first met Scott in 2018, not long after we had just opened our winery. The doors had barely settled on their hinges when in walked this magnetic guy—all energy, sharp rockabilly style, and a thousand questions about cider. He was curious, excited, and absolutely brimming with ideas about opening his own cidery. Little did I know that day I had just met someone who would not only become a friend, but a driving force behind the craft cider movement in Northeastern Pennsylvania (NEPA).
Scott didn’t just make cider—he lived it. He brought a rare combination of passion, grit, and authenticity to the craft. As anyone who knew him can attest, he wasn’t in it for flash or accolades—he was in it for the people, the process, and the genuine connection between the land and the glass.
In the world of cider and wine, we often talk about terroir—the sense of place expressed through the fruit. But there’s another layer to that idea: the spirit of the maker, the fingerprint of the human behind the bottle. Scott’s cider had that in spades. It was authentic, unique, approachable, and endlessly engaging—just like him.
Every conversation with Scott felt like a rally cry for the working class. He had a way of rooting himself in real talk and honest craftsmanship, championing the everyday person through every bottle he corked. His work at Electric City Cider Works reflected not only his talent but also his deep love for his community. He didn’t just build a cidery—he built a movement and a space for people to connect, create, and celebrate.
The loss of Scott leaves an enormous void. It’s not just the cider community that mourns, but the entire NEPA craft scene, and the countless individuals whose lives were better for having known him. He was more than a cider maker—he was a collaborator, a mentor, a supporter, and most of all, a friend.
To his family, friends, and the team at Electric City Cider Works, please accept our heartfelt condolences. Our thoughts are with you as you navigate this immense loss. We hope you find comfort in knowing just how deeply Scott impacted those around him, and how his legacy will live on in every pour, every shared story, and every orchard row he helped to bring to life.
Scott, your passion, presence, and laughter will be sorely missed—but never forgotten. Here’s to the man who elevated cider, empowered people, and lived with intention and joy.
Rest easy, friend. We’ll raise a glass in your honor—and many more after that.
