Xana was a beloved daughter, sister, friend, and student whose infectious energy and compassionate heart left an unforgettable mark on those around her. She had a spark—an unmistakable joy for life—that radiated through her laughter, her curiosity, and her fearless spirit. Her sudden passing, along with three of her closest friends, shocked not only the University of Idaho community but the nation as a whole.
A Joyful Soul Full of Life
Born in Arizona and raised in Post Falls, Idaho, Xana Kernodle embraced life with open arms. She was adventurous, funny, and fiercely loyal to those she loved. Whether she was hiking in the mountains, dancing to her favorite music, or cheering on her friends, Xana lived with a sense of freedom and joy that made every moment feel like a celebration.
She was a junior at the University of Idaho, studying marketing in the College of Business and Economics. Her professors and classmates remember her as a bright, engaged, and motivated student who was deeply committed to her education and always ready to help others. Her ambition, paired with her warmth, made her a standout both in and outside the classroom.
Xana was also a proud member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority, where she formed deep bonds with her sisters and built a network of lasting friendships. She had a gift for making people feel seen, loved, and valued. Friends describe her as the kind of person who would go out of her way to make someone smile, even on their hardest days.
A Love That Endures
At the time of her passing, Xana was in a loving relationship with Ethan Chapin, who also tragically lost his life that day. The two shared a beautiful, joyful connection that was evident to anyone who saw them together. They laughed often, supported each other fully, and lived in the kind of young love that speaks of deep mutual respect and shared dreams.
Their bond was a testament to the kind of person Xana was—devoted, affectionate, and always striving to make the people she cared about feel loved.
