In Loving Memory of Neil Perry

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) has confirmed the heartbreaking loss of 55-year-old Neil Perry, who tragically died in a single-car accident in Columbus County on Thursday morning. The accident occurred around 6:49 a.m. on November 13 near Gus Bryant Road on N.C. 87. According to officials, Neil appeared to have swerved to avoid a dead animal lying in the roadway, causing his vehicle to cross the center line and crash into a tree. Despite efforts to save him, Neil was pronounced dead at the scene.

This sudden and devastating loss has sent shockwaves through his family, friends, colleagues, and the broader community who knew him—not just as a skilled professional, but as a warm, passionate, and deeply dedicated human being. The tragedy of his passing is made even heavier by the selfless instinct behind his final act: trying to avoid harm, even in a split second, reflects the kind of person he was throughout his life.

In a touching statement on social media, Methodist University confirmed that Neil was a valued part-time faculty member in its Communication & Media department. He was more than an instructor; he was a mentor, a guide, and an inspiration to countless students who had the privilege of learning from him. Suzanne Malley, the university’s provost, expressed the heartfelt grief of the entire campus community, writing, “We extend our deepest condolences to his wife and family and to all the members of our community that Neil touched with his passion for teaching at MU.”

Neil Perry was not only an educator—he was an accomplished media professional whose work reached national and international audiences. Over the years, he contributed to Grammy- and Emmy-nominated music, television, and film projects. His talent and dedication earned him gold and platinum certifications, accomplishments that speak to both his skill and his commitment to excellence. Yet despite his impressive résumé, those who knew him say he carried his success with humility and always used his experience to uplift and empower others.

To his students, Neil was a teacher who made learning come alive—someone who brought real-world experience into the classroom and encouraged creativity, curiosity, and confidence. To his colleagues, he was a generous collaborator and a trusted friend. And to his family, he was a loving husband and a steady, comforting presence whose support and kindness made life brighter.

Neil’s death is a reminder of how fragile life can be, how quickly everything can change, and how deeply one person can impact the world around them. Though he is no longer here, his legacy lives on—in the lessons he taught, the art he created, the people he inspired, and the love he gave freely.

As his loved ones grieve, they also honor the extraordinary life he lived and the countless ways he made a difference. Neil Perry’s memory will remain a lasting light, guiding those who knew him with the same warmth, passion, and generosity he shared throughout his life.

May Neil Perry rest in eternal peace.

Forever admired, forever cherished, and deeply missed.
