GREENBRIER COUNTY, WV — The Greenbrier County community is reeling after the tragic death of 24-year-old Miranda Gray, of Charmco, who was identified as the victim of a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred in the early hours of Saturday, July 27, 2025.

According to a press release from the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a distressing call around 7:50 a.m. reporting the presence of a deceased female in the Hines area of Greenbrier County. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the lifeless body of a young woman near the roadside, with visible signs indicating that she had been struck by a vehicle.

Following the on-scene investigation, the victim was identified as Miranda Gray, a beloved daughter, friend, and member of the small community of Charmco. Her death has left her family and neighbors devastated.

The Greenbrier County Crime Scene Unit was dispatched shortly after to join the investigation. Their forensic team worked extensively at the scene to gather critical evidence. Officials confirmed that based on the condition of the scene and preliminary findings, it appeared Miranda had been hit by a vehicle earlier that morning, and the driver had fled the scene without notifying authorities or rendering aid.

The investigation, led by the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office in collaboration with the West Virginia State Police, moved swiftly. Within days, authorities located both the vehicle and the suspected driver believed to be responsible for the incident. The vehicle was examined and processed by the Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Team for further forensic evidence.

Though no official charges have yet been announced, the authorities have stated that further information will be released once the investigation has concluded. The Sheriff’s Office also noted that Miranda Gray’s family has been notified, and they extend their deepest sympathies to those grieving her sudden and heartbreaking loss.

Miranda Gray was known in her community for her vibrant personality, kind heart, and resilience. Friends describe her as someone who always had a smile and never hesitated to help others. Her loss has created a painful void not just in her family, but across the broader Charmco and Greenbrier communities.

In their press release, the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office expressed appreciation for the public’s cooperation and tips, which they said were instrumental in identifying and locating the suspect. They also encouraged anyone with further information to reach out to Deputy Peacock, the lead investigator, by calling 304-647-6634.

This heartbreaking tragedy underscores the importance of responsible driving and the moral and legal obligation to stop and render aid when accidents occur. Hit-and-run incidents are not just crimes—they are failures of human decency, leaving victims’ families searching for answers and justice.

As the community continues to mourn the untimely death of Miranda Gray, support continues to pour in through social media tributes, candlelight vigils, and messages of love and remembrance.
