The two men lost their lives in a devastating collision early Wednesday morning, July 16, 2025, on FM 39 in Leon County, just north of Jewett. A northbound 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe collided with a turning northbound Peterbilt tractor-trailer from Houston at approximately 5:58 a.m., sending the SUV beneath the trailer. Both Matthew, the driver, and Christopher, the passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Texas Department of Public Safety .
