In Loving Memory of Kay Arthur
Beloved Bible Teacher, Author, and Co-Founder of Precept Ministries
1933 – 2024
We are saddened to share the passing of Kay Arthur, a devoted servant of Christ, beloved Bible teacher, and the co-founder of Precept Ministries International. Kay passed away at the age of 91, leaving behind a rich legacy of faith, purpose, and unwavering commitment to the truth of God’s Word.
Kay Arthur was more than just a Bible teacher—she was a spiritual mother to millions. Her life’s work revolved around one mission: to help people discover truth for themselves through the in-depth study of Scripture. She believed deeply in the transforming power of God’s Word and spent her life making sure others could access and understand it, regardless of age, background, or location.
Born in 1933, Kay’s journey of faith was marked by grace, humility, and boldness. She and her husband, Jack Arthur, co-founded Precept Ministries in 1970. What began as a small Bible study in their Chattanooga, Tennessee home grew into an international teaching ministry that touched lives in over 180 countries and in more than 70 languages. Their signature Inductive Bible Study method became a global tool for spiritual growth, empowering countless believers to engage with Scripture deeply and personally.
Kay authored dozens of books and Bible study resources, including beloved titles like Lord, I Want to Know You, Lord, Teach Me to Pray, and As Silver Refined. Her writing was known for its clarity, depth, and heartfelt encouragement. Whether through her books, televised teachings, or live conferences, Kay’s words were always grounded in Scripture and offered with deep love for the body of Christ.
But beyond the teaching and the tools, those who knew Kay—whether personally or through her ministry—remember her as a sweet, dear lady, full of warmth, compassion, and fierce devotion to God. Her eyes would light up when talking about the Bible. She had a gentle spirit but never wavered in proclaiming biblical truth, even when it was countercultural. Her faith was not only spoken—it was lived.
Kay encouraged generations of Christians, especially women, to grow in their faith, to know the Lord intimately, and to walk in His truth boldly. She mentored, counseled, and inspired thousands of leaders who now carry forward the torch she lit.
In her later years, even as her public appearances became fewer, her influence only grew. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of the many she discipled, the churches she strengthened, and the global ministry that continues to thrive.
Today, we mourn the loss of a spiritual giant, but we also celebrate the life of a faithful servant who finished her race well. Kay is now in the presence of the Lord she loved so dearly, hearing the words she longed to hear: “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
To those whose lives were touched by her ministry—whether through a study, a book, a conference, or a word of encouragement—may we continue in her footsteps, upholding the truth of God’s Word and helping others to discover it for themselves.
Thank you, Kay, for your obedience, your courage, and your tireless love for God’s people.
You will be dearly missed—but your legacy endures.
