In Loving Memory of Junior Staggs: A Champion, A Friend, A True Voice of the South
With heavy hearts, we share the deeply saddening news of the passing of Junior Staggs, a man who was not only a gifted auctioneer but also a beloved friend, father, and supporter of community traditions. Junior passed away yesterday, and his absence will be felt by all who knew and admired him.
Junior held a special place in our hearts as the 2017 Mule Day Auctioneer Champion, a title he wore with pride and humility. His booming voice, unmistakable rhythm, and charismatic presence behind the mic made him stand out in any crowd. But beyond his incredible talent, what truly set Junior apart was his character—he was generous, down-to-earth, and always ready with a kind word or a helping hand. He was a man who believed in hard work, loyalty, and faith, and he lived those values every single day.
His support for the Mule Day Auctioneer Championship (MDAC) went far beyond his year as champion. Junior was a tireless advocate for the competition and for the auctioneering profession as a whole. Whether mentoring young auctioneers, volunteering his time, or simply showing up to cheer others on, he was a cornerstone of the MDAC family. His presence brought energy, tradition, and heart to the event every year.
But the role Junior cherished most was that of husband and father. His love for Katie and their daughters was deep and unwavering. He spoke of them often with pride and tenderness, and it was clear that his family was the center of his world. As we mourn this loss, we hold Katie and the girls especially close in our thoughts and prayers. We cannot imagine the pain they must feel, and we ask our entire community to lift them up in love and support during this devastating time.
To know Junior was to know a man who never met a stranger, who filled a room with laughter and sincerity, and who left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. His passing leaves a void that will be impossible to fill, but his legacy will live on—in the stories we share, the traditions he helped preserve, and the memories that make us smile even through the tears.
As we say goodbye, we honor not just an auctioneer champion, but a true champion of people, community, and family.
Rest easy, Junior Staggs.
Your voice may be silent, but your spirit will echo in our hearts forever.
You will be sorely missed, and never forgotten. 🕊️💔
Our sincerest condolences and continued prayers go out to Katie, the girls, and all who loved him.
